The Archives of Michigan has launched a new web page in observance of MayDay. The page explains the MayDay initiative and the Archives of Michigan response. You can view the page here: http://www.michigan.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-17445_19273_19313-190978--,00.html .

I'd also like to point out our Emergency Preparedness and Conservation page: http://www.michigan.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-17445_19273_19313-125387--,00.html . This provides a link of web resources for Michigan cultural institutions. In the spirit of MayDay, I reviewed this page and checked to ensure that all links were current.

MayDay is a good time to review your disaster preparedness plan or make steps toward drafting one. The Archives of Michigan is covered under the Michigan Department of History, Art and Libraries' department-wide plan. In the last week, I took the opportunity to talk with the Chair of the HAL Disaster Preparedness Committee (I'm also on this committee). We swapped some notes and reviewed the plan's contact information. I also checked the Archives' hard copies of the plan and placed some new copies in strategic positions.

Last year, the Archives created a Pocket Response Plan (or PReP) card, using a template created by the Council of State Archivists. The PReP card contains response information (including phone numbers) and can be handily carried in one's pocket. Copies of both the template and the Archives of Michigan final draft can be found on the Archives' Emergency Preparedness page (http://www.michigan.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-17445_19273_19313-125387--,00.html ). This is a handy tool, and I'd recommend giving it a look.
