Naturalization indexes for thirty-four Michigan counties are now available online! They can all be accessed here: http://www.michigan.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-17449_18635_20684---,00.html (Please note that the Naturalization Record Indexes page is not a list of all counties for which the Archives of Michigan has naturalization records. For such a list, see this circular: http://www.michigan.gov/documents/mhc_sa_circular10_49699_7.pdf ) As always, we encourage everyone to visit our home page: www.michigan.gov/archivesofmi Bob Garrett Archives of Michigan Telephone: (517) 241-1382 E-mail: garrettr1 at michigan.gov Looking for a unique holiday gift? This month, the Archives of Michigan spotlights beer labels collected by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission. We selected labels for now-defunct Michigan beers, so this feature could be nostalgic for some. Here's the direct link: http://www.michigan.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-17445_19273_19313-182229--,00.html For the section on the U.P.'s Bosch beer, I relied heavily on an online article by MAA's own Erik Nordberg. Thanks, Erik! I linked to Erik's article in the Image of the Month feature, but I'll also include the direct link in this message. Message-ID: <4784AAF10200005700002750@michigan.gov> It's that time again: Any submissions for OPEN ENTRY, the MAA newsletter, should be in to me by noon on Monday, Feb. 11th (usually, the deadline is Feb. 10th. Feb. 10th is a Sunday, though, so I'm giving people an extra morning.). The actual publication date will be sometime around Monday, March 3rd, so you can plan your submissions accordingly. Submissions can be e-mailed to me at garrettr1 at michigan.gov. They should be in MicroSoft Word format and can be anywhere from 200-1,200 words. The preferred font is Garamond, 11 pt., but that's not required (We'll be happy to change the font ourselves.). Accompanying images are always welcome, as well. In fact, they're encouraged. These should be in jpg format, 330 ppi (For the less tech. savy among you: ppi and dpi are the same thing.). The size should be a minimum of 1200 x 900 pixels and a maximum of 1500 x 2100 pixels. If you have questions about scanning or sizing images, then please let me know. I might be able to advise in some cases. Content: We're interested in any news items or articles relating to Michigan archives, Michigan archivists and the archival profession. These can include literature reviews, reference hints and news from archival repositories. The latter can include staff changes, collection updates, special projects and promotional events, among other things. If you have any questions on accepted subject matter, then please let me know. THE MICHIGAN ELECTION RESULTS DATABASE: Michigan precinct data is now available online for the years 1992-2004 (Some of you might remember Caryn Wojcik discussing this project at an earlier MAA meeting.). The database can be accessed through the "Spotlight on Archives" section of our home page. For a direct link, click here: www.michiganelections.org 2. STATE ARCHIVIST'S BLOG State Archivist Mark Harvey's blog, "The Anecdotal Archivist," has moved. The new url is: http://anecdotalarchivist.wordpress.com/ . (This, too, can be accessed through the "Spotlight on Archives" section of the Archives of Michigan home page.) Mark's latest blog entry contains some background information on the elections database mentioned above.
